Our core program, community-based mentoring involves spending time in a one-to-one relationship with youth, ages 6 through 14, out in the local community. Each volunteer Big is thoroughly vetted, and each match is given dedicated, ongoing support from a case manager. Bigs must pick up their matched Little from their residency.

This is just like a traditional Community-Based match except a child is matched with a pair of adults who would like to mentor together. Pairs can be spouses, partners, roommates, friends, co-workers, etc. Both members of the pair must submit an application and go through our orientation, interview, and background check process.

During get-togethers, Bigs and Littles do things they enjoy together like:

• Taking a walk in the park
• Going to the movies
• Trying new foods
• Playing sports
• Doing art and crafts
• Just hanging out and talking

Our agency also offers activities throughout the year for matches, at no cost, ranging from game night, ice cream night, ice skating to holiday parties, and much more. We also have a wide variety of community partners who offer special discounts to active Big Brothers Big Sisters.

If someone asked me if they should become a Big Brother or a Big Sister, I would say, ‘absolutely.’
