STEPS

1. Submit application English | Espanol

2. Attend orientation

3. Complete an Interview

4. Meet your Big!

One of the biggest factors in a young person’s happiness and future success is having a positive, adult role model. Children and youth have unlimited potential, and creating a one-to-one friendship with a caring, responsible and reliable adult is a proven way to unlock that potential.

A Big Brothers Big Sisters of America study found that kids matched with a ‘Big’:

  • Are more confident

  • Are more likely to steer clear of high risk behaviors

  • Do better in school

  • Get along better with family and friends

  • Feel better about themselves

Safety First:

Your child's safety is our highest priority. Making the best possible match between a Little and Big is critical to the growth and development of a child. Before we begin the matching process, we start by thoroughly screening potential Bigs.

Every match is closely monitored and supported by a professionally trained case manager

Big Brothers Big Sisters National Standards of Excellence require each volunteer to complete an extensive screening process that includes:

• Completion of a formal written application
• Background and reference checks
• An in-person interview
• An orientation and training process that outlines the individualized needs of your child and provides information and resources on how to encourage your child's development

Our professional staff will be in ongoing communication with you, your child, and your child's Big. We feel strongly that this is the best way to build a strong relationship that will have a positive and enduring impact on your child’s life.

Through my first-hand experience, I understand how important it can be to a young child who is in a position where he or she doesn’t have that adult mentor in their life.
